
Before that comes in, the chorus emotionally chants, " You carved a special place for your pain / So it came back to hurt you every night / You closed your eyes and wished it all away / Until you disappeared under the knife," relating to the listeners who have felt that certain pain. The song ' Under The Knife' deals with self-harm directly, the bridge reaching an emotional climax. The instrumental overall is pretty epic, lots of elements build up together.Īs mentioned before, this album has a strong sense of closeness. ' Pulse' takes it a step further, trap-esque synths swimming above the uplifting lyrics and strong rhythm. ' Supposed To Be,' the album's intro, has big, dark, industrial synths that follow the thick rhythm guitar with powerful drive. The band has dabbled with these elements in previous records, but there's a lot more of a focus on it on You Can't Kill Us. The most noticeable element of this record is its electronics.

Often times, that place of refuge is music, and the band's new album You Can't Kill Us is a testament to that. Their music is very personal for the scene crowd who often find themselves feeling alone and in need of something to give them purpose. The same year as the latter release, Davis left the band.You don't get quite as scene as Icon For Hire, but there's something special about this band. Ariel has been quoted as saying of the performance, "Our passion for music was there whatever we lacked in sound we made up for with enthusiasm." Over the next two years, the band toured throughout the Midwest and released two EPs, the self-titled Icon for Hire EP in 2008 and The Grey EP in 2009. The band played their first show in a local club before an audience of family and friends, who gave them a positive reception even though, by the band's own admission, they gave a terrible performance. Bassist Joshua Davis joined and the band was officially formed in November of that year, choosing their name as a satirical comment on the state of the music industry.

When the need for a drummer arose, Jump recruited Adam Kronshagen, an old friend he had held jam sessions with as a member of the local party scene (Jump was six months clean at the time). When the two met in 2007, Ariel, upon discovering that Jump played guitar, initiated a musical collaboration between the two of them. The band was formed in Decatur, Illinois by vocalist Ariel and guitarist Shawn Jump. According to several interviews, the band is in the process of writing a second album for the label. They released two EPs independently before signing to Tooth & Nail Records, through which they released their Billboard-charting debut album Scripted in 2011. Formed in 2007, the band's current lineup consist of singer Ariel, guitarist Shawn Jump, bassist Josh Kincheloe, and drummer Adam Kronshagen. Icon for Hire is an American rock band from Decatur, Illinois.
